The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander reflects a reconsideration of the foundation of a crossover SUV. For many years, the crossover provided affordability and efficiency. The new Outlander keeps those basics in place but adds new ones, such as strength, reliability, and comfort. And it does so with a sense of style, using a design concept that Mitsubishi refers to as “Bold Stride.” Compare it against the Nissan Rogue by features, price, and specifications below.
The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander comes in three different trim levels: the ES, SE, and SEL. The ES starts at a manufacturers’ suggested retail price of $25,795. The Mitsubishi Outlander SE starts at $28,845 and the Outlander SEL tops out at $31,945.
The 2021 Nissan Rogue offers eight trim levels. The MSRP starts at $25,850 for the Rogue S front-wheel drive. Prices range from there to $28,940 for the Rogue SV all-wheel drive, $32,200 for a Rogue SL front-wheel drive, and $37,030 for the top-of-the-line Platinum all-wheel drive.
The Outlander is a centerpiece in the Mitsubishi SUV lineup. The 2022 version is longer, wider, and taller than previous versions. The car comes with three rows of seats that comfortably seat seven people. Powered by a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine, the Outlander offers an all-wheel-drive system that adapts to shifting road and weather conditions. The 2022 Outlander is also available in front-wheel-drive-only configuration, which also gives the ability to change drive mode settings.
The Outlander comes outfitted with a modern technology experience, providing a large 12.3-inch screen showing the car’s instrumentation as well as a 9-inch entertainment and information center screen. Newly added to the 2022 Outlander is a wireless charging capability for phones.
The Rogue runs on a 2.5-liter DOHC four-cylinder direct-injection engine. The car offers a range of electronic safety features, such as emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot warning, lane-departure warning, and rear-door alert.
The Rogue’s focus on functionality extends to features such as a rear door that opens to 90 degrees, a feature that parents will appreciate, as well as NASA-influenced rear-seat designs and climate control. You will also get some new technologies, such as wireless charging, and can enjoy a 9.0-inch display screen for entertainment.
The Outlander’s 2.5-liter engine puts out a respectable 181 horsepower with a matching 181 pound-feet of torque. Continuously variable transmission is standard across all nine trim choices. You’ll probably be driving on 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, which are standard on most trims. Offering plenty of headroom either with or without the sunroof, you will also enjoy the roominess for cargo. The Outlander offers upwards of 120 cubic feet of space for your cargo and storage needs.
The Rogue’s engine generates a similar amount of output as the Outlander at 181 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. Depending on your choice of trim, you will be driving on either 17-, 18-, or 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels using all-season tires. Rogue offers a little less in the way of interior room for cargo space. You will be able to fill about 72 cubic feet of space with all seats folded down in the Nissan Rogue.
